I am using Sony Vaio 14' laptop, E series vpcea13EN, intel core i3-330M Processor 2.13 GHz, OS changed from installed windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Those are the complete details. I use an external mouse since I am not so comfortable with the Touchpad. The problem: when I type something, sometimes, the words which should continue forward unexpectedly get into some previous words or line and continue there. I tried many times to get answers from the internet.
They said I might be touching the Touchpad unknowingly. I am sure I didn't do that. The suggestions given were to use the switch to disable the Touchpad.
Do PS2 Keyboards work on Windows 10. Ask Question. If the PC has a PS2 port then it will work on any operating system the PC supports. – Ramhound Nov 4 '15 at 16:22. You may update the PS2 mouse driver from Device Manager manually and check if this helps. Press (Windows key + X) and click on “Device Manager”. Start making video calls without installing any drivers on Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7/Mac OS X v10.4.8 and above. Connect the product to the PS/2 or USB or Audio port on your computer. The advice is OK, but Sony laptop, at least this model, does not have any button/switch to disable/enable the Touchpad. I do not want to disable the Touchpad forever.
So, has any expert found any solution to such a nuisance? I would be glad to hear. I had tried all these suggestions in the past since the same type of suugestions were given by different people in the internet.
All the same again I tried everything you said. Nothing works. In the Device Manager - mouse & Pointing devices, there are only two entries: HID compliant mouse and PS/2 Compatible Mouse. There is no Touchpad written anywhere. There is no key with any icon of the Touchpad either in this model. Still nice to find a solution if one is available. I believe there is a solution.
Only it may take time. I too enjoy trying to find solutions where apparently there aren't any. But regarding the computer my knowledge is not much and I am afraid to press wrong keys or give wrong commands and spoil the computer. What you show appearing in the Control Panel for Mouse is not shown in my Control Panel for Mouse Under the heading Hardware I get only 2 lines: the first line says - HID compliant mouse and the second line says - PS/2 Compatible Mouse. When I went many times to the Sony manufacterer's website they ask to give the name of the computer.
Then the computer picture is shown. Beyond that I cannot go. If I give the Model number embossed on the back of the laptop, it says the model is not recognised. They made the laptop and now they say it is not recognised. What can I do against such odds?
My problem still remains. I tried everything you suggested. I checked control panel - mouse. Saw the 2 headings PS/2 and HID. Removed the mouse and only PS/2 remained which conclusively proved that it was for the Touchpad. There under Drivers heading a 5 box list was shown one of which had the words 'Disable'. But the problem is only the top box 'Drver Details' is highlighted and all the others are faint and hence cannot be touched.
Next I went to Sony site you had suggested. My original factory installed OS was Win 7 Home Basic. But I had bought Win 7 Ultimate and the technician installed it with 64 bit. Anyway i downloaded the Alps pointing driver, installed it. Except that some graphics have changed in the Mouse panel, the 'Disable' box still remains faint and cannot be modified. What do I do next?
Is there a solution at all? Mike, Your explanation seems to be the most logical one to understand my laptop problem.
I had saved the drivers of original Win7 Home Basic, factory installed on my computer. They are: Atheros wireless LAN; Intel ME diriver; Marvel Ethrnet driver; SD Card Reader; and MS Card Driver. I do not have chipset driver. I might have missed it or could not find it. A short time ago, according to your advice, I downloaded the above mentioned drivers, including Chipset driver. Only MS Card Driver I could not find in the list of drivers displayed. 2 days ago following one item of advice, I downloaded the driver of PS/2 and installed it.

No change came. I was afraid of spoiling my computer and so I uninstalled it. So now that I have downloaded the win7 Ultimate 64 bit drivers, should I install all of them ( one is still not found)? Or install only the chipset driver?
Or What else? I would appreciate the advice. It is approaching midnight, so I might work tomorrow. Sorry for not answering earlier. Too much trouble with internet connection these days.

I trie to find VPCEUGIE.pdf at the site mentioned to download the bigger manual. Could not find the right heading anywhere. So no manual yet.
Following Mike's suggestion I downloaded windows 7 ultimate drivers a teh nd mur computer technician installed the chipset drivers. No change noticed. Opening the 'mouse' in control panel still there are only 2 lines: HID compliant mouse & PS/2 compatible mouse.
No word 'touchpad' anywhere. The technician said that the required driver in 'synaptic.'
